Early readers help children move from being read to toward reading more words and sentences on their own. They usually use controlled vocabulary, short sentences, large print, supportive pictures, and clear reading levels so children can build confidence step by step.
This group includes phonics readers, beginner chapter starters, and step-by-step reading levels. They work well for kindergarten and early elementary children, home reading practice, classroom reading groups, phonics support, and short daily reading routines.
Choose books that match the child’s reading stage, not only their age. Books that are too hard can become frustrating, while books that are too easy may not build new skills. For reluctant readers, keep sessions short, positive, and pressure-free.
